Common mistakes with QR codes in exhibitions
A QR code alone is not enough. Typical problems include small codes, poor contrast, slow pages, long text, missing languages and no visitor measurement.
The code is too small or badly placed
Visitors must be able to scan the code without bending, glare or guessing. Placement and contrast decide whether the content is ever opened.
- eye-level or hand-level placement
- matte surface
- test from normal distance
The page is not made for mobile
After scanning, visitors expect a fast page with clear text and comfortable controls. Long catalogue paragraphs and tiny type reduce use.
- fast loading
- short paragraphs
- thumb-friendly controls
No languages and no statistics
For museums and routes, multilingual content is often the biggest value. Statistics then show which QR codes and languages are actually used.
- language choice at the start
- same structure in every language
- visitor data for improvements
